Well done
[edit]To the original editors of this page you have my esteemed gratitude. My research into the Pacific Theatre largely includes eyewitness and similar primary source actors who drive a counterpoint to the IJN’s established precedent for an attack upon Pearl Harbor. Are there more articles you can draw upon to further expand the discord present between Nagano and his peers? Remembering the 8-track (talk) 22:16, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
Orders and decorations
[edit]I noticed that this article is missing the section about received decorations that other pages about military leaders have. I'm not in a position to add the list right now, but if someone else be willing to, and should they need a source othern than photographs of Nagano, He Gave an Order by F. J. Bradley does have a few pages on the subject.--179.6.30.195 (talk) 20:23, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

Osami Nagano → Nagano Osami – This admiral's name is 永野(Nagano) 修身(Osami) in Japanese. Requesting a swap with its redirect page Nagano Osami to make the title in LN-GN order in line with other similar articles. Yiba (talk | contribs) 13:13, 9 April 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. - Comment: As a post-Meiji historical figure, name order can go either way. How do reliable sources refer to this person? O.N.R. (talk) 18:40, 9 April 2022 (UTC)
- Britannica.com uses the form Nagano Osami (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Nagano-Osami) and there is a book by Dzhessi Rassel titled "Nagano Osami" (ISBN-5509477059). In my mind, this comes down to how well the sources know the Japanese culture, which always places Last/Sirname first. I think modern day articles on Japanese names are increasingly accepting the sirname-first order on Japanese names in English articles. de.wikipedia (along with vi.wikipedia, etc.) uses Nagano Osami as well. en.wikipedia is somewhat behind in realizing "Unless the person actively promotes him/herself in GN-SN order on English and other foreign language publications, Japanese names are always written in SN-GN order." - Comment—Google ngrams shows that 'Osami Nagano' has been the predominant form and though there was a crossover preference around 2000, it remains the predominant form. Ngram graph. I do realize this can be a deceptive descriptor. The prevalence of use of 'Nagano Osami' is clearly rising, but it has not become predominant yet according to this measure. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 16:25, 16 April 2022 (UTC)

- Oppose as I see no evidence that the majority of reliable sources put the name in SN-GN order. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 18:51, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
